I posted something recently on my personal facebook that seemed to really resonate with others so I figured I would write about it some more:
"Sometimes following your goals and dreams can be a very lonely place. I guess the important thing to remember is quality over quantity!"
I may have a ton of fans on my modeling page, and a ton of facebook friends, but those are just numbers. Internet numbers don't represent the true friends you have or the real support system that surrounds you. I don't talk about this often, or at all, but I lost a very dear friendship to me in the past year and I know it's directly related to me choosing to pursue my dreams and my passions.
I suppose it's not always easy to balance new interests, goals, and dreams with the interests and opinions of other people. Ultimately, no one else's opinions should matter on those topics but your own, but, it's certainly difficult to remember that statement when the feedback and comments given are more malicious than constructive. Needless to say, over time, this killed a beautiful friendship.
I'm not going to use this post to lament that loss, but rather to reach out to any one else out there that is in a similar predicament... You are NOT doing this alone. Follow those dreams! Pursue those goals! If a friend can't be supportive of what you're trying to achieve, or can't keep back hurtful and insulting comments, then maybe they aren't really as good of a friend as they claim to be. The feeling of success, and the joy you'll share with those who stuck around is worth it in the end, I promise
