Trying something new!

Posted on June 12, 2013 at 9:30 PM

This past weekend, I had a shoot with a brand new team! That in itself is something different for me since I tend to shoot with the same people over and over again, and in the same styles too..

This shoot was not only with a new team, but it was in a style that completely took me out of my usual comfort zone!

TEAM:

Photographer: Paul Brutal

MUA: Painkiller Penny

Hair: Marie-Helene Moccia

Styling: JC Zakrzewsky

We put colorful extensions in my hair, instense makeup (including black lipstick!) on my face, and I got to wear clothes with more of an edgy punk rock feel - definitely WAAAAAAAY different than my standard pinup and boudoir looks ;)

I just received the photos and we may even try to submit some of them for magazine publication! I promise they'll blow you away and you'll really be able to see how much fun we had and how much effort went into creating them.

EDIT: To see a small selection of the photos, you can visit my facebook page or the Gallery section of my website.

(Highlight of the shoot for me: Having the photographer tell me I was great to work with since he didn't need to give me any direction. YAY!)

Have YOU tried anything new lately? What have YOU done to step outside your comfort zone?

Let me know in the comments section!

xoxo

Yael

I recently step out of my comfort zone by doing a boudoir photo shoot. As a photographer I am usually the one who does the photographing so this was the first time I was actually in front of the camera, and in my SKIVVIES! It was fantastic, liberating, and fun! Also the images were not half bad! And I know it's kind of corny and you probably here this a lot, but I have you to thank. After finding your facebook page the images I saw encouraged me to go out there try something scary, something new.

Nadia, thank you so much for sharing!
I am touched and honored to hear that I inspired you to do something new and liberating :)
If you've put the photos up anywhere, could we see them?

Have I tried anything new? Oh yes I have! I've walked a runway for the first time, started wearing makeup, having photoshoots, I even had a small part in a short film back in may and been an extra in another one.
I still have my regular job, but i'm having fun with the rest!
So, since I met you, Yael and Nel, my life is brand new altogether :)
I just keep going out of my comfort zone and it feels wonderful!!!!!

Glad to hear! It's very true that so many (if not most) models and especially photographers find one particular style or look and just stick to it all the time. In my opinion, real creativity comes from breaking out of a comfortable routine to explore new genres. I look forward to seeing how your port develops!

As a transgendered individual, I step out of (or should I say INTO) my comfort zone every time I put on women's clothing. It took me a long time to accept this part of myself because it falls outside of societal norms and makes some people uncomfortable, but doing so has been an intensely liberating experience...
